10 Electric Car Components & Their Functions

Global warming is becoming an increasingly serious issue, and one of the most tangible steps we can take is to switch to electric vehicles. So, it's no surprise that electric cars are now a hot topic of conversation, from hangouts to boardrooms. They are quieter, have minimal vibration, and are certainly more environmentally friendly because they are emission-free.

But have you ever wondered what makes electric cars run smoothly without a drop of gasoline? To avoid just being a passenger on this trend, let's get to know the 10 main components of electric cars that work behind the scenes.

1. Traction Battery Pack

This is the "heart" of an electric car. Its function is to store and supply DC current to the inverter, which then powers the traction motor. Supported by a robust structure, the traction battery can be recharged multiple times.

2. Power Inverter

This component acts as an "electricity translator." It converts DC current into AC to spin the traction motor. During regenerative braking, the inverter also functions in reverse: converting AC to DC to recharge the battery.

3. Controller

If the battery is the heart, then the controller is the brain. Its job is to regulate how much energy is delivered from the battery to the motor based on the pressure on the accelerator pedal.

4. Traction Motor

This is the "muscle" of an electric car. The traction motor drives the wheels with electric power. Interestingly, this motor can rotate up to 18,000 rpm!

5. Charger

The charger is the battery's loyal friend. Its job is to convert AC electricity from the SPKLU into DC that can be stored in the battery. There are two popular types: on-board chargers and off-board chargers.

6. Transmission

Its function is similar to that of a regular car transmission: it transmits power from the motor to the wheels. The difference is that in electric cars, the system is made simpler.

7. DC Converter

High voltage from the battery needs to be converted to a lower voltage for other components, such as lights or entertainment systems. This is the role of the DC Converter.

8. Auxiliary Battery

This is a backup battery for additional features: wipers, air conditioning, and even car alarms. So, everything stays on even when the main power is being used by the motor.

9. Thermal Cooling System

To prevent overheating, electric cars need a cooling system. This component keeps the temperature of the battery, motor, and other electronics stable even during long trips.

10. Charging Port

This part is the "entry point" for electricity from outside. It is through this port that the car connects to a charging station or home charger.

Why is it important to know these components?

In addition to giving you a better understanding of the technology, knowing the components of an electric car can also help you maintain it properly. So, it's not just about following the trend, but also about being ready to maximize the performance and lifespan of your vehicle.

Electric cars are clearly no longer a distant future, but a real choice today. By getting to know each component, you will be more confident in switching to a more environmentally friendly vehicle.

10 Komponen Mobil Listrik & Fungsinya

1. Baterai Traksi (Traction Battery Pack)

4. Motor Traksi

Inilah “otot” mobil listrik. Motor traksi menggerakkan roda dengan tenaga listrik. Menariknya, motor ini bisa berputar sampai 18.000 rpm!

5. Charger

Jadi, semua tetap hidup meski daya utama tersedot motor.

9. Thermal Cooling System

Supaya nggak overheat, mobil listrik butuh sistem pendingin. Komponen ini menjaga suhu baterai, motor, dan elektronik lain tetap stabil meski perjalanan jauh.

10. Charging Port

Kenapa Penting Tahu Komponen Ini?
