How to Properly Warm Up a Hybrid Car

Hybrid cars have recently become increasingly popular among urban communities due to their fuel efficiency and environmental friendliness. However, despite their similar appearance to conventional cars, hybrid cars require slightly different treatment, particularly when it comes to warming up the engine.

While conventional cars must be warmed up before use, hybrid cars are more flexible and time-efficient. So, when and how should you properly warm up a hybrid car? Let's find out!

1. No Need for Daily Warm-Up

Hybrid vehicles are designed to operate immediately without the need for daily warm-up. Since they have an electric motor that can generate torque from low RPMs, you don’t need to waste time warming up the engine every morning like you would with a gasoline-powered vehicle.

However, this doesn’t mean you never need to warm up a hybrid vehicle at all.

2. Warm Up When the Ambient Temperature Is Very Low

If you’re in an area with extremely low temperatures, such as highlands or during heavy rain, it’s advisable to warm up the car for a few minutes before use. This helps stabilize the battery temperature, ensuring the electric motor operates optimally and the battery lasts longer.

Hybrid batteries can lose performance if they get too cold. So, warming up briefly can help restore normal performance.

3. Check the Surrounding Environment First

One of the advantages of hybrid cars is that they have adjustable operating modes. Some cars can even transfer heat from the gasoline engine to the electric battery, making warming up more efficient.

If the surrounding weather is normal or warm, there’s no need to bother warming up. Besides wasting fuel, you’ll also be wasting electrical power that could be used directly for driving.

4. Warm Up Briefly

If you do need to warm up the hybrid engine, just 2–5 minutes is sufficient. Once the temperature stabilizes, it can be used immediately. Don’t warm up for too long, as this can reduce battery lifespan and make energy consumption inefficient.

Don't forget to regularly maintain the electrical system and battery to keep the car in optimal condition.

In summary, hybrid cars are more practical and less demanding when it comes to engine warming up. They are ideal for those who are often in a hurry or live in large cities with relatively stable weather.

Kalau cuaca sekitar lagi normal atau hangat, nggak perlu repot-repot warming up.

4. Panaskan Sebentar Saja

Kalau kamu memang perlu memanaskan mesin hybrid, cukup 2–5 menit saja.
