An automatic car does offer practicality, just step on the gas and brake without the hassle of changing gears. Even so, many drivers still make mistakes when driving them. 

These mistakes have the potential to damage the transmission quickly, and even risk causing an accident. Here are some mistakes that often occur:

1. Not Understanding the Function of the Transmission Lever

Many do not understand the meaning of lever positions such as P (parking), R (reverse), N (neutral), D (forward), D2, and L. In fact, the wrong position can have a negative impact on the car.

2. The car is in reverse but the lever is in position D

Don't let the car go into reverse while the lever is still in D, or vice versa. This can damage transmission components and the steering system.

3. Moving the Lever to P While the Car is Still Moving

Shifting the lever to the P position when the car has not completely stopped can cause serious damage to the transmission.

4. Shifting the Transmission While Stepping on the Gas

When moving the transmission lever, make sure your foot is not on the gas pedal. This is to avoid unexpected acceleration that could be dangerous.

5. Stopping at a Red Light with Position D

9. Parallel Parking with the P Position

When parallel parking, avoid the P position as the car cannot be pushed if necessary. Make sure the transmission lever is in the N position by first pressing the shift lock lever, and don't forget to deactivate the parking brake.

10. Lack of Care When Moving the Transmission

Make sure the lever is in the right position before driving. The wrong position can cause the car to move in an unwanted direction. For example, you might want to go forward but put the R gear or vice versa. Many incidents like this have led to accidents. It doesn't hurt to look at the transmission lever so you don't misplace it.

5. Berhenti di Lampu Merah dengan Posisi D

6. Menginjak Rem dengan Kaki Kiri

8. Tidak Menginjak Rem Saat Menyalakan Mesin

Selalu injak rem saat menyalakan mesin untuk mencegah mobil melompat jika tuas tidak berada di posisi P atau N.

9. Parkir Paralel dengan Posisi P

Saat parkir paralel, hindari posisi P karena mobil tidak bisa didorong jika diperlukan. Pastikan tuas transmisi berada di posisi N dengan terlebih dulu  menekan tuas shift lock, dan jangan lupa nonaktifkaan rem parkir.

10. Kurang Hati-hati Saat Memindahkan Transmisi

Pastikan tuas berada di posisi yang benar sebelum melaju. Salah posisi bisa menyebabkan mobil bergerak ke arah yang tidak diinginkan. Sebagai contoh, kamu mungkin ingin maju tetapi memasukkan gigi R atau sebaliknya. Banyak kejadian seperti ini yang menyebabkan kecelakaan. Tidak ada salahnya menengok ke arah tuas transmisi supaya tidak salah posisi.

11. Lupa Servis Berkala

Transmisi matik memerlukan perawatan rutin, termasuk penggantian oli transmisi. Pastikan melakukan servis berkala di bengkel resmi untuk menjaga performa mobil.
